From white to black
20 January — 29 February, 2024
From the prolific creation of Josep Nosàs, Galeria Antoni Pinyol presents an art series that are exhibited in public for the first time and represent a new universe, different from the rest of the artist’s works.
These are works that Josep Nosàs realized on between years 1983 and 1987 in his farmhouse in Selva del Camp, near Reus, when his life was focused on artistic creation.
Despite the different alphabets we find, the link that unites them is the use of Chinese ink and other materials that take it down the paths of the black color on white paper, that becomes a color palette. A path where it also passes through a nuanced and subtle range of grays. Josep Nosàs experiments creatively with these materials and works with various own techniques. Based on drawing, he incorporates other formulas and tools that result in works that speak to us with the language of balance and harmony.
It is the abstract concept of the form and the line, which allow him to emphasize the gesture and the rigorous work in the execution. One perceives the spontaneous gesture in some works and the reflexive precision in others, and both are the result of knowledge of the craft and the possibilities of the materials.
His creations communicate silence, calm and stillness in some cases and, in contrast, in others we find energy, dynamism and vitality. All of them are the window open to his inner world, his most intimate feelings and dreams. The artist felt free working in his studio, away from any ism, fashion or trend, always following his open, honest and personal creative path.
You have to look at these works by Josep Nosàs with pure eyes, without prejudices and, in a personal and non-transferable way, experience the sensation they convey and let your imagination run free. Only in this way will we be able to perceive the lyricism and the intrinsic truth of each work.
