Imaginart Gallery brings to Barcelona the photographs of Joel-Peter Witkin (New York, 1939). With a work that leaves no one indifferent, is characterized by addressing issues such as death, sex and the pain. He is known for photographing corpses, dismembered body parts, and people who they live with physical varieties that are far from normativity. From the recreation of paintings and classic scenes from the History of Art, he seeks to praise and honor the bodies that historically have considered ominous. His works can be found in such prominent collections as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris. In 1988 the Center de Arte Reina Sofía dedicated the most complete anthological exhibition ever held to him. everything and get great international recognition, throughout his career the artist has been widely criticized and censored.
