Sbararo “Xarranca”

16 January — 17 February, 2024

We present a new exhibition of Mauricio Sbarbaro in our gallery.

Sbarbaro was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) on 26 January 1960. He began studying architecture at the Faculty of Montevideo and trained in parallel with the painter Miguel Ángel Pareja. From 1986 to 1992 he wins various prizes and awards in Montevideo. In 1993 he came to Europe, first to Madrid and then to Cadaqués.

In his oil paintings, the Costa Brava has become one of his main inspirations. The colour of the water, with all its nuances and play of light, the night on the beach with the sea vibrating in the moonlight and the golden glow of the sand, are themes that he develops ad infinitum.

Sbarbaro interprets this environment with lines and colours, from the blue of the sea to the black of the burnt mountains, the grey of the fog or the ochre of the beaches. The schematic nature of his geometry invites us to want to discover what his brush is proposing to us.
